cannot format my hard drive.
When you try to format your drive and receive
an error during the process. Such as "Cannot Format
Disk" or "Incorrect Parameter" then it's
likely you have some sort of disk error on your drive.
Let's start by checking for disk errors. Please do the
following:
- Connect the drive and turn it on.
- If your computer starts to "freeze" or
"hang" disconnect your drive after it does.
This will cause your system to return to normal.
- Open the Control Panel
- Open the Administrative Tools (Tip: use the classic
view)
- Open the Event Viewer
- Select the System log on the left
- On the right, you should see warnings or errors
or both on the top 5-10 (or more)
- Double-click on the most recent one.
- In the properties window check for the following:
a. Source: DISK
b. EVENT ID: (Usually 7, 11, 50 or 51)
c. Description: An error was detected on /HardDisk1/
…
- i. If you get an event ID 7, 11, 50
